Resolved Question: Is IMF's aim to destroy the economies of countries creating recession in order to buy their properties low?

It seems wherever IMF is involved, it creates recession, demanding drastic cuttings and austerity measures, without any development policy or any investments? They destroyed Argentina and many other countries in the past, are they going to destroy Greece and Portugal as well? Why is it difficult for EU politicians and IMF members to understand that Greece or Portugal can't go out of this vicious circle without investments and development? The only they managed is to increase the debt of Greece from 135% to 160%. Or they just want to keep the banks and they are going to leave Greece and Portugal alone when it is done?

Resolved Question: I would like to keep some chickens what should I do?

I just bought a home in the countryside, in Portugal. I am seriously considering keeping some chickens. Both hens and at least one cock. I do this because I want to have the eggs, and because I think they also eat some of the tiny insects that walk around. The problem is: I am a city guy. I grew up in a city so I am not sure how should I proceed. I Intend my chickens to be as free as possible. The home has an internal courtyard, but with no grass. So I have many questions: Where do I buy them? What should I give them to eat? I have a cat, will the cat attack my hens (or viceversa?). If I need to go away for some days, what do I need to organize? Do they need someone to arrive every day? ARe there automatic food dispenser? DO they need to drink? On the back of the home there is a hill, Part of this hill is also part of the property. What will happen if I let the chicken roam free? And finally what if I just free some chickens in the hill. What will happen? Thanks for any possible answer. Please, as there are many questions, if you have a book to suggest or a very good website I will not vote you down for that.

Resolved Question: Did ICE just the biggest error in dept history they are not permitted or allowed to do this in sanctuary city?

In a four-day sting that ended Monday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested 53 convicted illegal immigrants, including two in Framingham and one in Milford. "Operation Threats Against the Community" ran from Nov. 18 to Nov. 21, ICE said in a statement, and resulted in the arrests of 22 convicted repeat offenders. Of 42 men and 11 women arrested, 24 are convicted felons. ICE spokesman Ross Feinstein said yesterday that two of the arrests were in Framingham and one in Milford. He said he couldn't give out names per department policy, but said some of the crimes those arrested had been convicted of included assault and battery, domestic abuse and destruction of property. "Ultimately these individuals will go through the normal proceedings," he said. They will go before a judge at the Executive Office of Immigration who will decide whether they will be deported. Those arrested ranged in age from 25 to 61 and hailed from many different countries, including Albania, Algeria, Brazil, Canada, Cape Verde, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Portugal and Vietnam. "The results of this targeted enforcement operation underscore ICE's ongoing commitment to public safety," Vincent Archibeque, deputy field office director of ICE for New England, said in a statement. Milford Police Chief Thomas O'Loughlin - a supporter of the Secure Communities program - said his department sends information about suspected violent illegal aliens directly to the department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. "We don't belong to Secure Communities, so the only way we can help is to deal with ICE directly," O'Loughlin said yesterday. O'Loughlin said when the department suspects it has arrested an illegal immigrant charged with a serious crime, it sends the person's information and fingerprint card to a special e-mail address ICE has set up for local police departments. O'Loughlin estimated his department has sent more than 30 names in the last month. "We follow the protocol for Secure Communities," he said, in that only those accused of violent crimes like assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, gun crimes or drug dealing are sent. O'Loughlin said the department thinks about the potential consequences of sending the information on a case-by-case basis. "We're not looking to split up families, but when we have something when someone is not (a good) part of a family because of violence, that's something we take a look at," he said. O'Loughlin said ICE is good about letting his department know when it is going to attempt an arrest, and he often sends officers to assist ICE agents and making sure the peace is kept. Framingham Police spokesman, Lt. Ron Brandolini, could not be reached for comment yesterday. Framingham was not listed in the ICE press release as one of the departments that assisted in this weekend's operation. Feinstein said this latest sting is not a one-time deal. "Going after convicted criminal illegal aliens who pose a threat to communities in Massachusetts in a sustained effort," he said. Resolved Question: How much is a uk passport worth on the black market?

We had our car broken into yesterday in Portugal, in the car park of a fairly silent rural semi-touristy area. We were away from the car for less than 10 mins. A bag was taken which was not very well hidden on the floor of the front passenger seat. Bag contained 2 passports, mobile, mp4 player, plus some other stuff like a notebook, tissues etc. They obviously didn't have any time/intention to go through the relax of the car (phew!!!!!) which was full of clothes, camping gear etc plus hidden laptops, satnav, bank cards, driving licences etc. To clip a long story short... We went to the local police and reported the incident. 15 mins after we left the station they called us and said the bag had been found discarded close the road so we went to collect it. It contained everything but the mobile and mp4. So... we got our passports back!!!! I am at a loss as to why the thief didnt keep the passports and sell them on the black market. I thought passports, especially UK ones, were hot property. Any ideas? We found the whole thing a little bit surreal and to be honest we were a little suspicious.. A local told us it happens every day there. So why weren't the police on top of it? Or ... maybe they're in on it?! And they just make sure we receive the passports back so we don't report it to the foreign office or something... Otherwise I don't receive it.... why would the thief not keep the passports???

Resolved Question: Could you guys come up with a topic sentence?

We are doing this Geo project about demography and we need some help trying to receive a topic sentence. i'll glue our paragraph and we'd really appreciate it if you would arrive up with a topic sentence. Here is the paragraph: Italy and Canada are two different countries, with different population properties. According to Italy’s population pyramid, there was a massive increase in population during the age of 30 and over. However, Italy’s population concern is the lack of resources for ex. The similarity between Canada and Italy is the increase in population compared to 1996. Conversely, Italy does not provide with many job opportunities, in contrast with Canada, where there are many job opportunities for various ages. Comparing Portugal’s population pyramid to Canada’s 1996 population pyramid, they are both very similar. The base of the pyramid with the ages, 1 and over expands until the ages 35-39 and then contracts when it reaches the ages 90 and over. Males and females between the ages 35-39 have the highest population, take the name as the “working class”.

Resolved Question: Moving back to the UK?

Some people might think this question is crazy, but I am British and my partner Portuguese. I moved to Portugal 3 years ago, and worked since I arrived here. We possess a property here etc etc. Seriously anyone who knows Portugal well will know the employment here is disgraceful, and i mean nothing like the issues you have in the UK. Even for multi lingual degree educated down to the school leavers there are no jobs! The jobs that are available either only employ you for 6 months or are paid so low. I know people that have worked for 10 years in the same company and never had a pay rise. Anyway due to being from the UK and having family there, we are seriously considering moving back to the UK. Just for the one reason if we do we can actually try to keep money to receive married, have better prospects and more opportunities, in the wish that one day we can eventually move back. My partner is fluent English and we both have years and years of sales and office experience. Is the job situation really as bad as the media says? I have looked in the local area I am from and there seems to be lots of work, every be it not hugely paid but there is work? Reading some of the online papers is very depressing, constant news of no jobs, people fed up of this and that, crime, etc. I would imagine some areas are effected more than others? Any thoughts from people would be a great help. I am from the south east of England

Resolved Question: 10 points for who ever can pick flaws with this comment about communism,?

I think that the easiest way is to use the Rawls thought experiment, if you were to be randomly reassigned a place in society - worldwide, thanks to globalisation, would you really want to be below capitalism? The majority of the world are in poverty with over 40% in absolute poverty thanks to imperialism - when a wealthy nation perpetrates a war in another nation in order to impoverish it to export extreme proletariat conditions and receive cheap labour. Alongside the media being controlled by the wealthy to influence the weak minded (Just look at the tabloids during the general election, or Fox News in America) and the delegates elected to parliament every being wealthy themselves in order to campaign - thus not seeing the negatives of society - the corruption that is an inevitable feature of capitalist society because of the dog-eat-dog enforced mindset, it creates a situation in which the wealthy will be the people truly in control of a country as opposed to the people - which is the sole goal of democracy. Thus, democracy doesn't truly exist below Capitalism anyway. Another important thing to point out is the lack of social mobility. Through lobbying to keep tuition fees high and general education in poorer areas worse funded than wealthy areas below the guise of 'supporting the economy' or currently 'solving the deficit' which is obviously economically driven. Furthermore, a good measure of direct damage of capitalism is drug use. Drug use is statistically higher in countries with harsher restrictions - more liberal countries such as The Netherlands and Portugal have the lowest use rates in the world, and there is a causation correlation between income and drug use. Tobacco companies obviously use lobbying power to prevent liberalisation, because they want to keep their profits high. This is a very clear description of how profit is considered over human welfare - the absolute conclusion of capitalist society. You can probably understand the libertarian (lack of government interference with the guideline of the hurt principle) point of view when you study the statistics that show societal aims are supported through their principles. [22:35:18] Ollie: Religion is a tool that will always exist in class based society as a way of keeping the lowest class complacent and rally support for imperialism – look the crusades, or the propaganda on every side of every war in history. It's worth noting that Christianity is one of the worst on this aspect, being used by every group in WW2. [22:35:33] Ollie: The Socialist principle (by the way, Karl Marx never differentiated between the words communism and socialism and due to their academic nature and exemplification from linguistic relativity, are the same damned thing) has at it's very root “workers control of the means of production” or the abolition of private property. I prefer the former because it is less misleading. Marx differentiated between “personal” - your home et cetera – and “private” property, which consists of any tool for bourgeois exploitation of the lower classes in order to make profit. So, factories and machinery to name the most obvious. [22:35:39] Ollie: It's worth pointing out that the USSR, China etc never did have workers workers control of the means of production, and in fact combined state and corporate interests to create state capitalism! [22:35:44] Ollie: Through collective ownership of the means of production, this would allow absolute social mobility – your parents job having no affect on your possess aside from perhaps a slightly indoctrinated upbringing. Most importantly, it will remove poverty due to abolition of the accumulation of wealth by the very few. I need you to help me prove this wrong!

Resolved Question: Tax in Retirement - UK or Portugal? Which is the better?

I've worked in Portugal for the past 15 years and coming 65 this month, qualify for my UK state pensions plus a tiny one from Portugal. My wife has received her pension from earlier this year and I realise that increases when payment of mine begins. My tax regime was in Portugal during the time I worked there but we returned to our UK English home in September last year after suffering a slight heart attack when I stopped working. Our UK home is the only property we have owned during this time. I have two tiny company pensions which have been taxed at 20%. We're considering renting our UK home and moving (renting) in Portugal for 7 or 8 months per year. Can anyone advise me on an informed basis if I switched my tax regime in retirement back to Portugal if I would receive a higher net income compared to domicile in UK? Many thanks in advance, John

Resolved Question: The McCanns are turning into property thieves!?

Apparently, they want to receive their hands on the home of Senor Amaral (the chief detective in the Madeleine case in Portugal) so that they can gain yet another million or so pounds. Weird that THEY leave their kids alone for a week and receive off scot free. The policeman who tried to find their daughter is pilloried and they try to make him homeless. They want the money because the detective suggested the "abduction" story was a lie. Check it out. Google it. They so want to screw Amaral. Is it vicious on their behalf? Or trying yet again to convince everyone of their innocence? I can't believe someone is trying to blame a Portuguese policeman for the McCann hideous neglect!! These McCanns didn't even look for their child when she disappeared. They even seemed to know that "they" had taken her. They lied about jemmied shutters and could never explain why expert sniffer dogs found signs of death throughout the holiday apartment - and on Kate's clothes. They lied again about Kate saying: "They've taken her." Who was they?? This Mccann stuff is not silly in the end. They are desperate to force their possess tale onto the public and it is not working.
